Patient photos

Before-and-after photos of a rash, a wound or a lesion — with the patient’s consent, inside the file, compared side by side.

Photos are entirely optional. Until you switch them on, there is no photo button, link or tab anywhere.

Switching it on

  1. Go to Doctor & chambers → Photos.
  2. Tick Use patient photos in this practice. A Photos link appears on the pad and a Photos tab on the patient’s file.
  3. Three more choices open underneath.

Taking a photo

  1. Press Photos in the strip at the top of the pad, or open the Photos tab on the patient’s file. Then + Add a photo.
  2. Press Use the camera to take it with the computer’s camera, or Choose a picture to give a picture file.
  3. Say where on the body (face, hand, leg, wound… or type your own), which side, and a note if you want one.
  4. Tick The patient (or guardian) agreed to this photo being taken and kept for their treatment — without it the photo cannot be kept.
  5. If they also agreed to teaching use, tick that separate box; otherwise the photo is for their treatment only.
  6. Press Keep the photo. If today’s visit is open, the photo is filed against it too.
Photos of the breast, groin, genital area and buttock are marked private by themselves, and any other photo can be. A private photo is always covered, and is never sent to the AI.

Before and after

Photos are grouped by where on the body they are. Open one and choose an earlier date of the same place under Compare with:

  • Side by side — the two photos next to each other.
  • Slider — one over the other; drag the line to move between before and after.

Under each photo: the date, that visit’s diagnosis and medicines, who took it (the doctor, or whose phone), and what consent was given.

The AI — only when you ask

  • Describe the change — compares two photos and says only what is visible: better, worse or about the same; size, redness, scaling, healing — and how far the light or the angle makes it uncertain.
  • Conditions to consider — from one photo and this visit’s notes: up to five possibilities and why, what question or examination would tell them apart, and any sign that should not wait.
The cost is shown before you press, with “This photo will be sent to the AI service to be read. It is not stored there.” The answer is not a diagnosis, never names a medicine or a dose, and is never printed or sent to the patient.

From a phone

Your own paired phone shows Take a patient photo on its Reports tab; the assistant’s phone only when you have switched on the choice above. The phone has the same boxes — where, which side, a note, private — and no photo is kept without consent. The patient with the doctor now is chosen already. The photo is made smaller and sent straight into the practice file; it is not kept in the phone’s gallery, and the photo records whose phone took it.

Where they are kept, and deleting

  • Photos live only in the encrypted practice file, and so in its backup. They go to no server and no cloud.
  • They are never printed on a prescription and never go to the patient with Send.
  • Open a photo and press Delete this photo to remove it for good — it cannot be brought back — and the audit trail records which one went, and when.
  • Switching the feature off does not delete the photos; they are simply not shown anywhere, and come back when it is switched on again.
