Day to day
A child’s growth and vaccines, and pregnancy
An under-five’s measurements against the WHO standard, the EPI schedule, and the weeks and due date from the LMP.
A child’s growth
For a child under five, two more boxes appear under the weight: Length (lying, under two) or Height, and Head circumference — in centimetres. As you type, they are read against the WHO Child Growth Standards underneath:
- Weight-for-age — underweight, severely underweight
- Length/height-for-age — stunted, severely stunted
- Weight-for-length/height — wasted (MAM), severely wasted (SAM), overweight
- Head circumference-for-age — small or large head
Each shows its SD (z-score) — “−2.4 SD · underweight”. A number outside what the standard thinks possible is not given a diagnosis; it is called a measurement to check.
The Growth link at the top of the pad charts every visit’s measurements on the WHO curves — the median, ±2 and ±3 SD — so a child drifting away from its curve is plain to see.
EPI vaccines
The Vaccines link on a child’s pad shows Bangladesh’s routine EPI schedule with the date each dose falls due. When doses are due, the link says how many in red.
| When | Vaccines |
|---|---|
| At birth | BCG |
| 6 weeks | Penta 1, OPV 1, PCV 1, fIPV 1 |
| 10 weeks | Penta 2, OPV 2, PCV 2 |
| 14 weeks | Penta 3, OPV 3, fIPV 2 |
| 18 weeks | PCV 3 |
| 9 months | MR 1 |
| 15 months | MR 2 |
When a dose is given press Given today; to record one off the card press Given earlier and put in the date, or Date not known. A later dose of the same vaccine is never due sooner than four weeks after the one before, so a dose given late moves the next one with it.
Pregnancy
For a woman aged 12 to 55 the LMP box is not always open. It opens by itself when the visit is about a pregnancy — an LMP carried from the last visit, or pregnant, ANC, missed period, amenorrhoea, trimester or the Bangla for them written in the complaint, history, examination or diagnosis. Otherwise a small + Pregnancy (LMP) button sits under the vitals and opens it. Put the date in and the weeks and days, the trimester and the expected date of delivery (280 days from the LMP) appear beside it — and it says when the due date has passed.
- It prints on the prescription — the LMP, the EDD and the weeks on the day of the visit.
- It comes forward to the next antenatal visit by itself, while it is under 300 days old.
